E3 Reactions: Sony

Sony is kicking things off with a bunch of video trailers showing lots of explosions! It’s already more captivating than Nintendo’s conference.

364 games for Playstation family this year. Someone should try to play one game every day! 100 new PS2 games coming. All licensed crap, I’m sure.

Uncharted 2: Multiplayer beta launches tonight. Damn this game looks pretty. I wish Amy Hennig were presenting it. And wish it were a new Soul Reaver. But this is seriously impressive!

MAG: 1 vs. 256. Bigger doesn’t necessarily look better. Lots of icons on the screen. The HUD is kind of a mess.

The crowd mocks the lilac Hannah Montana PSP. I laugh.

PSP Go: Yeah, we know. New media manager software that no one cares about. Or rather I don’t care about, since it likely won’t be Mac-compatible.

All PSP titles will now be digitally distributed in addition to UMD releases. Gotta keep Gamestop happy. PSP Go launches for $250 on October 1. Ouch. PSP video downloads kick off today. If only I could get mine on my stupid wifi network.

Gran Turismo PSP: Wasn’t this announced like three years ago? Let’s see it! They’re going all Pokémon with the cars; swap with your friends to collect all 800. That sounds exhausting.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker: Finally a real MGS game on PSP. Followup to Snake Eater, looks very stealth-heavy.

Resident Evil is coming to PSP but there’s nothing to see. Boo. Little Big Planet, Motorstorm snippets look good, but don’t we get a closer look? Was that a multiplayer Echochrome?

FF7 hits PSN today. I will never understand that game’s appeal.

Home: Not where my heart is.

PS3 montage. Lots of multiplatform goodness. Did they just show Wet? Dushku ftw! They’d better show more Heavy Rain than just that.

Agent: Rockstar’s PS3 exclusive revealed. Except not, since they showed nothing but a logo.

Assassin’s Creed 2: Ye olde renn faire. I love how all Ubisoft employees sound like my friend Simon, who’s also from Montreal. Da Vinci’s flying machine looks cool, and seems to mix things up a bit. Dual knives to the throat are cool, but the combat looks as shitty as the first one.

FF14: PS3-exclusive. So is this online like FF12 or do I not care? Oh right, I don’t care.

Sony’s new motion controller works with the Playstation Eye. Has one-to-one movement, but this guy still can’t hit a ball. The variety of props are getting big laughs from the crowd. Looks very Eye Toy-y. The wand looks exceptionally precise. Painting is the new hotness, apparently.

The archery looks better than Wii Motion Plus’ but maybe cause he’s not just shooting a target. No real games to show, launching in spring 2010.

Mod Nation Racers: Why didn’t they use Sackboys and brand it Little Big Racer? Looks like a pretty Mario Kart with no character. Demonstrating the track creator, which looks pretty cool. Drive on a blank canvas to create a racetrack. Looks intuitive and fun for DIYers.

The Last Guardian: Now we’re talking. TRICO finally gets named. And this looks an awful lot like that leaked video but with textures. The little boy animates fantastically. This makes me want my own flying ferret thing.

How is Gran Turismo 5 still not out yet?

God of War 3: I could’ve lived without seeing that chicken woman’s bare breasts. It really looks exactly like you’d expect, but it looks like a lot of fun. The QTEs are back and doubly brutal. Releases March 2010, no surprise.

That was a much humbler Sony than in years past. I guess getting knocked from the top does that to you. No big surprises, but they’re finally building a solid base of good PS3 games.
